R250k worth of fireworks confiscated, Frances Baard Cluster, NC

Kimberley SAPS with the assistance of provincial office members under the guidance of SAPS Explosives unit raided street vendors and businesses selling fireworks without a valid license.

More than sixty fines were issued under the Explosives Act 26 of 1956, which ranged between R1500 and R2500.

Almost 3 tons of explosives were confiscated which has an approximate street value of about a quarter million rand. The operations took place in Kimberley and flared out to Douglas, Jan Kempdorp, Hartswater, Pampierstad and Warrenton.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape Province, Lt Gen Risimati Peter Shivuri commented that we will continue to turn the tide against crime and squeeze the space for criminals to operate.
