R140m fraud, corruption, hawks raid Richtersveld municipality

The Hawks Serious Commercial Investigation Unit conducted a search and seizure operation at Richtersveld Municipality in Port Nolloth on 22 May 2018.

The operation follows allegations of awarding of tenders by the municipality without following due processes. The monetary value involved is approximately R140 million.

Most of the tenders were awarded in 2017 and based on the allegations the Serious Commercial Investigation Unit is pursuing cases of alleged maladministration, fraud and corruption.

Various documents and electronic equipment were confiscated during the search. No arrests have been made as yet and the investigation still continue.
