The team comprising of the SAPS Frances Baard Cluster Office, Education Department, Department of Correctional Services, SAPS Visible Policing units, K9 units, SAPS Sector Managers, SAPS Polmusca Choir and Safety Volunteers from Youth Against Crime held raids and safety talks at six high school in Kimberley, Galeshewe and Hartswater for the past week.
The team did random searches and addressed just over 7000 scholars in safety talks. The team confiscated dangerous weapons such as knives, broken mirrors, scissors as well as cigarettes and some dagga at the schools.
Classrooms, toilets, sporting facilities and the outside perimeters of the schools were searched. Scholars found in contravention will be dealt with by their various schools’ disciplinary processes.
The SAPS shall continue to strengthen relationship with the Department of Education, NGO’s and the community to ensure that safety and security is prioritised and the culture of learning on the school premises is not compromised.
Police will therefore carry on with random unannounced school raids to address the issue of drugs and dangerous weapons at schools.
