Petrusville rapist sentenced to 20 years imprisonment

A rapist was passed down a 20-year prison sentence and additional 2 years for theft recently in the De Aar Regional Court.

Manual Mogamedi, aged 22 years old, allegedly raped the 37-year-old female victim on 15 September 2018 at approximately 02:00 when she returned home after visiting a tavern. She was accosted by the suspect who was wearing a balaclava at the time. He threatened her and demanded money. When she told him she had none he assaulted and raped her and also stole her cellphone.

The perseverance and commitment of the investigating officer, Sergeant Lebogang Serati who refused to give up and diligently followed up all leads which eventually led to the apprehension and arrest of the suspect on 18 June 2019.

The suspect remained in custody until he was sentenced on 11 May 2020 in the De Aar Regional Court.

The Provincial Head of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit in the Northern Cape, Brigadier Nicky Mills applauded Sergeant Serati for his dedication and commitment in ensuring that perpetrators of gender based violence is brought to justice.
