Operation Shanela II has intensified its crackdown on drug-related crimes, with a recent breakthrough in Kharkams, Kamieskroon, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
On Sunday, 06 July 2025, at approximately 23:00, members of the Springbok Public Order Policing Unit (POPS) acted on community intelligence regarding a suspected drug house in the area. The team swiftly executed a search and seizure warrant at a residence on Berg Street in Kharkams.
A 45-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were arrested for dealing in drugs under *Section 140/1992, Article 5(b)*, as well as for contravening the National Credit Act.
Authorities confiscated cannabis, mandrax, and Tik (methamphetamine) with an estimated street value of R7,800. Additionally, bank cards, a cellphone, and a significant amount of cash—believed to be proceeds from drug sales—were seized.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court soon.
Namakwa District police reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling criminal networks in the region, urging the public to continue reporting suspicious activities.
