A multi-disciplinary team led by Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Springbok K9, Local Criminal Record Centre and Upington Crime Intelligence resulted in the arrest of eleven suspects aged between 29 and 24 for dealing in drugs.
The syndicate members were arrested on the morning of 29 March 2021, in Western Cape and Northern Cape provinces during a project driven investigation aimed at addressing drugs and drug trafficking in Namakwa Cluster.
The team infiltrated the syndicate resulting in approximately thirteen transactions being recorded. An assortment of drugs which include, mandrax and tik valued at over R208 900-00 were purchased from the syndicate members.
Two vehicles, cell phones, camera, mandrax tablets and tik with an estimated street value of R3.3 million, and an undisclosed amount of money were seized during their arrest.
All suspects are expected to appear before the Springbok Magistrate court on Tuesday, 30 March 2021.
