The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation arrested nine suspects linked to the fraudulent driver’s licenses issued in Carnarvon, Northern Cape.

The suspects aged between 26 and 46 were arrested in various places in the Western Cape from 5 to 6 March 2018. They allegedly obtained driver’s licences without being subjected to mandatory tests.

Hawks Serious Corruption Unit, uncovered these fraudulent licences after following up allegation of fraud and corruption about the traffic examiner at Carnarvon Traffic Department who solicited bribes varying from R1 500 to R3 500 in exchange for the fraudulent licenses in the year 2016.

Eight driver’s license were seized and suspects will appear in Carnarvon Magistrate Court on 8 March 2018 facing charges of fraud and corruption.
