Neighbour, on bail for rape of girl (13), rapes her again, Kuruman

A 52-years Daniel Baathlodi was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for rape by Kuruman Regional court on Monday, 8 June 2020. According to the report Daniel called a 13-year-old victim to his place in September 2015 while playing with her friends on the street.

At his house he forced the victim to his bedroom and started to rape her at Tsineng village outside Kuruman. Thereafter, threatened to harm her if she could speak about the matter. The matter was reported to the police and he was immediately arrested.

On 19 September 2015 he was released on bail.

It is further reported that the accused who is the victim’s neighbour asked her to bring a phone charger to his place in April 2019.

The accused then tied the victim with a bandage and raped her.

The very same day he was arrested. The investigating officer Sgt Kenalemang Babeile successfully opposed bail and he remained in custody till his sentencing.

He was sentenced to 25 years for two counts of rape of 2015 and 2019.

Sgt. Babeile was commended by the provincial FCS Commander Brigadier Nicky Mills and the Kuruman FCS Commander Captain Caren Nel for her outstanding investigation.

The JTG Cluster Commander Major General Johan Bean applauded the department of Justice and NPA to work closely with Sgt. Babeile to ensure that Daniel is taken away from the society. General Bean also urged parents to look after their children at all times.
