Six murder suspects aged between 16 and 38, are expected to make appearance before the Pampierstad Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 12 November 2020, to bid for bail on count of murder. The suspects are accused of setting alight a 25-year-old man, subsequent to allegation of he stole an airtime voucher from a local tuck-shop in Sakhile Section, Pampierstad.

According to the information, suspects assaulted the victim and burnt him alive. The incident happened on Thursday, 29 October 2020. The victim was transported to the Hartswater Hospital, with severely burn wounds, where later he succumbed to the injuries.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Major General Phiwe Mnguni, condemned the acts of vigilante justice. “Community members are warned to refrain from taking the law into their own hands” says Major General Phiwe Mnguni.
