Multi disciplinary coast line operation yielded results

An integrated and multi disciplinary coast line operation by SAPS, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), State Security Agency (SSA) and Border Intelligence in Port Nolloth yielded successful results when several suspects were arrested over the weekend.

One suspect was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and dagga. Several people were arrested and issued with summons for being in possession of crayfish illegally along the coast.

One person was issued with a summons for driving a vehicle in the coastal area without a license and another motorist for driving a vehicle without a permit.

During the operation, various premises and vessels were inspected, harbors monitored and fish permits were also inspected.

The focus of the operation was on the enforcement of marine and coastal legislature, inspection of vessels for compliance to maritime safety regulations, illegal harvesting of maritime resources, smuggling of illegal goods and human trafficking. The key points are Alexander Bay Harbor, Port Nolloth Harbor and Green River mouth.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape Major Gen Koliswa Otola has reiterated that high density operations will be the order of the day along the coast and inland to ensure that the Northern Cape is safe through out the festive season.
