A rapist, 39-year-old Steven Kaotsane has been found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment on a count of rape.

The Northern Cape Police Management praised the investigating officer, Sergeant Boikanyo for his excellent investigative work.

Sergeant Boikanyo was assigned to investigate the case, subsequent to it being reported by the victim at the Wrenchville police station in 2019 on 16 December and successfully opposed bail.

The accused was remanded in police custody until the trial was finalised. During court proceedings, it came to light that the victim and her cousin were at a local tavern in Mothibistad, when the accused offered them a lift to drop them off in Promise Land, near Wrenchville and in Magojaneng.

However the accused only dropped off the victim’s cousin in Promise Land and promised to drop her off at Magojaneng but instead drove into a nearby veld and raped the victim repeatedly he then proceeded to his residence where he also raped her.

The victim managed to escape and alerted the police.

On Tuesday, 22 February 2022, the Mothibistad Regional Court, found Steve Kaotsane guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment, for raping the 26-year-old victim.

The Court declared Steven unfit to possess a firearm and his name will recorded in National Sexual Offenders Register.

The Northern Cape Police Management praised the National Prosecuting Authority and Department of Justice for incarcerating the accused for life.
