Phomolo Ferdinand Poleng (28) was sentenced in the Mothibistad Regional Court to ten years direct imprisonment for rape.

On 17 July 2012 the female victim (28) met the accused at the Kagung hiking spot in Mothibistad. The accused told the victim he forgot a bag at his place of residence and asked her to accompany him to the premises.

Upon arrival he assaulted and raped the victim.

The victim managed to escape and reported the incident to a neighbour and informed the police.

The suspect fled but was arrested on 28 August 2013 and remained in custody up until his sentencing on 2 March 2022.
