Mothibistad man sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for repeatedly raping his stepdaughter

Northern Cape SAPS Provincial Management welcomes the hefty sentence handed down to a rapist.

On Tuesday, 24 October 2023, the Mothibistad Regional Court, convicted and sentenced, 50-year-old accused Onkabetse Leeme to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for rape and 10 years’ imprisonment for sexual assault.

On Wednesday, 22 December 2020, a 13-year-old girl was sent by her mother sent to collect money from her boyfriend.

When she arrived at the home of the accused, he locked the door and raped the victim.

The victim informed her mother about the incident but, she did not believe her.

During January 2021 the accused raped the victim again and threatened her not to talk about the incident.

The victim informed her aunt about the incident who reported the matter to the police and a docket was opened.

The accused was arrested and bail was denied.

The 10 year’ imprisonment will run concurrently with the 20 year’ imprisonment for rape.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola applauded Detective Sergeant Normawonga Keetile for conducting a thorough and meticulous investigation that led to conviction and sentencing of the accused and that police remain committed in bringing the perpetrators of GBVF to book.
