More than 1.4 million rand stolen by dirty cops in Kimberley

The Northern Cape Hawks have made a major breakthrough in a case relating to an armed robbery attack at G4S base in Kimberley.

The incident happened on 6 May 2016 at about 19:00, where three armed men gained accesses to the G4S premises. They tied up a security guard and took off with a service firearm and an undisclosed amount of cash. Another security guard who had gone to the shop, on his return, found a co-worker tied up and unharmed and the matter was reported to the hawks.

Further investigation led the Hawks to the premises belonging to a police officer, Sergeant Samuel Jantjies (45) and his brother Densel Deon Jantjies (35). Money was recovered in different premises linked to the Jantjies brothers and were both arrested.

Three additional suspects, Constable Hendrik Daniels (35) , Jennifer Claasen (46) and Jean Pierre Wolfaard (26) linked to the alleged incident were arrested. All five suspects were arrested between 20-22 July 2016 and over 1.4 million rand was recovered. Both police officers arrested are attached to the TRT in Kimberley.

Constable Hendrik Daniels appeared at Kimberley Magistrates Court on Monday, 25 July 2016, while others appeared on Friday 22 July 2016. They are all expected to appear on 28 July 2016 for formal bail application.
