NORTHERN CAPE – The Kleinsee SAPS are investigating an inquest into the death of thirteen (13) males at the Tweepad Mining area near Kleinsee.
Preliminary reports indicates that the deceased were trapped underground when the tunnels collapsed.
The first incident occurred on 31 July 2023 at approximately 17:45, when a tunnel collapsed and one body of a deceased male was recovered.
The second incident allegedly happened in the same mining area on 01 August at approximately 20:00, when a tunnel collapsed on a group of men and eight bodies were retrieved.
Four more bodies were recovered from the area on 02 August 2023 at approximately 21:00 and the police investigation continues.
At this stage the identities and nationality of the deceased are still unknown as the police investigation continues.
