The Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime Detective team led by Captain Basil Buys, tracked down the suspects and eventually arrested one in Wolmaransstad, North West Province, on Wednesday, 4 March 2020.

The Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime, with the assistance of Wolmaransstad SAPS members and Potchefstroom Flying Squad apprehended a 43-year-old man in connection with a case of attempted murder and hijacking.

It is alleged that on Tuesday, 3 March 2020, at approximately 22:00, the suspect together with his accomplice boarded a Meter Taxi in Kimberley. In the process the duo held a 30-year-old Meter Taxi driver at a knife and gun point, compelled him to drive in the direction of Boshof.

They then stabbed and shot the meter taxi- driver and dropped him off on the Boshof Road and sped-off with the meter taxi.

During the arrest of the suspect in Wolmaransstad, the team recovered the meter taxi. Further investigation and search, a .22 Zip-gun, two knives. 15x 9mm ammunition and 6x .22 ammunition and 3x shotgun ammunition were found in possession of the suspect.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Friday 6 March 2020, on count of attempted murder and hijacking.
