A massive manhunt launched after a suspected rapist evaded arrest, yielded much desired results. A manhunt was launched following the rape of a 7 year old girl on Sunday 19 May 2019. According to information, the girl was playing in her grandmother’s yard, when the suspect grabbed and raped her under the tree. The suspect fled the scene after the alleged rape.
During the incident the victim, notably identified the suspect with his dreadlocked hair. On Wednesday 22 May 2019, the long arm of the law caught up with the suspect. The suspect is facing a count of rape and is expected to appear before Calvinia Magistrate’s Court on Friday 24 May 2019.
The Northern Cape Provincial Crime Detection Commander, Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Major General Koliswa Otola commended, the investigation team for promptly executing the arrest in this case. “We will stop at nothing to bring crime perpetrators to book and will continue to ensure that justice is served”. she said.
