Shirley Hofuza (21) was sentenced in the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court for attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

On 23 December 2020 at about 16:00, a male was shot by the female accused as he was exiting the Kimberley Court.

The incident occurred after he was granted bail on another matter he was arrested for.

Shirley Hofuza handed herself over to the SAPS on the same day and was in custody until her sentencing on 12 January 2022.

Shirley Hofuza pleaded guilty on all charges and was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment for attempted murder, 5 years for illegal possession of a firearm and 12 months illegal possession of ammunition.

The SAPS Management commended Detective Constable T Mokwena of the Northern Cape Provincial Organized Crime Detectives for his exemplary investigation of the case.
