The Delportshoop General Detectives have secured a 10-year prison sentence for 51-year-old Thomas Gundry, who was convicted for the 2015 murder of his partner, 31-year-old Katriena Buffel.
The Kimberley Regional Court heard that the body of the deceased was discovered on Sunday, 21 June 2015, lying motionless along a road in the Kesiekama area of Delportshoop. The victim had visible injuries, including bruises and a swollen face.
Police investigations revealed that Gundry, who was Buffel’s partner, was the last person seen with her before her death. This link led to his subsequent arrest and a formal charge of murder.
After being convicted, Gundry was sentenced to 10 years’ direct imprisonment. The court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
