A 48-year-old uncle will spend 18 years in jail subsequent to be found guilty and sentenced by the Galeshewe Regional Court for raping his 13-year-old niece. During court proceedings it emerged that, in January 2018, he found his 13-year-old niece sleeping in her bedroom and raped her.
The father of the victim entered the bedroom and caught the uncle red-handed in action raping the girl. The uncle managed to break loose and fled the scene.
The incident happened in Kagisho, near Galeshewe.
He was arrested shortly after the matter was reported to the police.
The Northern Cape Police Management, welcomed the sentence and praised the investigating officer, Constable Beverley Matlhale for her dedication and great investigative work.
