
Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, along with her management team, has praised the Calvinia General Investigation Unit for their role in securing a 15-year prison sentence for 27-year-old Wesley Witbooi. The Calvinia Regional Court handed down the sentence following Witbooi’s conviction for the murder of his nephew in a brutal October 2024 attack.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, 12 October 2024, when Witbooi and his nephew were socializing together in Calvinia. According to court proceedings, an argument erupted between the two, escalating into a violent confrontation. During the altercation, Witbooi drew a knife and fatally stabbed the victim, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The court found Witbooi guilty of murder, imposing a 15-year prison term and declaring him unfit to possess a firearm.
