On 6 March 2019 a 50 year old man was handed down a 15 year sentence in the Richmond Regional Court. The accused was a legal guardian to the victim and found in the act of attempting to rape the 4 year old girl at their home in Noupoort.
This incident occurred during July 2018 and the accused was immediately arrested and remained in custody up until he was sentenced. The investigation officer, Cst Nelson Williams is lauded for a job well done.
The Northern Cape Provincial Head for FCS units, Brig Nicky Mills hereby thanked all the investigation officers in De Aar and surrounding areas for their commitment in investigating cases. Convictions result in justice for the victims concerned and the community feel safer when the perpetrators are incarcerated. It also sends out a stern message that one of SAPS main priorities is the protection of women and children.”
