Warrant Officer Francois Bonzaaier, Port Nolloth Shift Commander and Constable Monray Mcdonald were doing patrol at Smarties Town when they received information about the man carrying undersized crayfish.

Information was followed up and the person fitting his description was spotted. Upon noticing police, he dropped the bag and attempted to flee. Alert members intercepted his attempt and was stopped.

The bag was searched and found in possession of 22 live crayfish, one dead crayfish and 167 crayfish tails. All were undersized. The 45 year old suspect was immediately arrested.

The suspect appeared before the Port Nolloth Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of catching crayfish out of season.

The case was postponed to 9 April 2018 pending further police investigations.
