South African Police Service

The police arrested a 30 year old man for his alleged involvement in eleven separate rapes, coupled with robberies and assaults in the Kimberley, Galeshewe and Kagisho areas. The incidents allegedly took place between 2014 and 2018, during which Ndumiso Giyani allegedly preyed on his victims in secluded areas, threatened them with a knife, followed by him raping, robbing and assaulting the females.

One victim is a 17 year old girl, while all the other victims are adult females.

On 24 January 2018, the SAPS Crime Intelligence unit, Galeshewe Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit and the NC Provincial SAPS Serial Electronic Crimes investigations (SECI) unit followed up on information and arrested the suspect at his house in Club 2000, Galeshewe.

This came after Giyani was arrested and sentenced during August 2018 to 18-months suspended sentence for possession of a stolen motor vehicle in Grahamstown. The vehicle was stolen in Barkly West, Northern Cape during 2018. The suspect appeared in the Galeshewe Magistrates’ Court on 4 February 2018 and the case was postponed for 11 February 2018. The investigation continues.
