The Provincial Management in Northern Cape SAPS has welcomed the sentence handed down in case of rape.

The suspect, Themba Stefaans (32) was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape and three years for kidnapping. The incident occurred on 19 December 2016 at Modderrivier when Stefaans was walking with his 39 year old cousin to their sister’s house. On the way the suspect attacked his cousin and threatened her with a knife before raping her.

Through the meticulous investigation of Sergeant Moses Morris of Kimberley Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) the Suspect was arrested later on the same day. His sentences will run concurrently.

The Provincial Commissioner of Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Risimati Shivuri has commended the FCS unit for their dedication and hard work in ensuring that perpetrators do time for their crimes, especially those committed against women and children.
