The Northern Cape Police Management welcomed a life term imprisonment handed down on a 36-year-old Tebogo Nkatlelang. On Friday, 20 March 2020, the Danielskuil Regional Court found Tebogo guilty and jailed him for life, for raping a 12-year-old visually impaired girl.

In 2012, January 28 at approximately 5pm, Tebogo lured the 12-year-old victim to his residence to collect R5.00. The victim arrived at Tebogo’s residence in the company of her 14-year-old friend and her other siblings. Instead of giving the victim the R5.00 he promised, he instructed his nephew to take the victim’s siblings back to their residence.

The victim remained behind with her 14-year-old friend. He bought beers and took both the victim and her 14-year-old friend to a nearby graveyard in Danielskuil where he raped her. During the trial it emerged that Tebogo was violent.

He left the victim on the crime scene fighting for her life. It was dark, she is visually impaired and she could not walk home on her own. She also sustained grievous bodily injuries. The victim was assisted to walk home by people who were passing by near the area where the rape incident took place.

The Police Management in the Northern Cape, commended the investigating officer Warrant Officer, DJ Bob for excellent and meticulous investigative work, which resulted in seeing Tebogo being sent to jail for a life term. The Management continued to praise the National Prosecuting Authority and Department of Justice for removing Tebogo Nkatlelang, permanently from the community.
