The Namakwa District Commissioner, Brigadier Schalk Andrews, has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of a 37-year-old man by the Fraserburg Regional Court on Wednesday, 3 September 2025.
The man, who served as a preacher in his local church, was found guilty on four counts of rape and handed four life imprisonment terms for the repeated sexual assault of his 13-year-old stepdaughter. The court heard that the horrific abuse began when the victim was just 10 years old and continued between 2017 and 2019.
Brigadier Andrews commended the prosecution team for their work in securing the conviction. He specifically praised Prosecutor Mr. Derel Bromkamp and Investigating Officer Constable Anthony Willemse for their dedication and professionalism throughout the proceedings.
Furthermore, Brigadier Andrews acknowledged the immense courage demonstrated by the young survivor and the witnesses who came forward to testify, ensuring that justice was served.
The sentencing ensures the convicted individual will remain incarcerated for life.
