On the morning of 11 September 2019, at about 00:30, the police in Kuruman acted swiftly to information that foiled an armed robbery to occur in Hotazel.

The Tactical Response Team (TRT) and the Hawks received crime intelligence information about armed suspects driving a Quantum and planning to bomb an ATM at Hotazel. The information was operationalised and the said vehicle was spotted and pulled off.

The TRT members approached the vehicle and the driver ran away while the remaining five male suspects were searched. The members confiscated explosive devices, three pistols of which one was a toy and gloves which were found in the suspects’ possession.

The five suspects, aged between 19 and 31 years old, were immediately arrested for unlawful possession of unlicensed firearm and explosives and are expected to appear before Kuruman Magistrates’ Court soon.
