High police visibility in and around Kimberley were intensified ahead of a community meeting scheduled to start at 15:00 on 22 July 2018.

The community is meeting in order to decide on the way forward regarding their demand for the Sol Plaatje Mayor to be removed. Some community members want the Mayor to continue while others are baying for his removal.

A community march last Thursday became violent when the community hall, satellite police station, building’s windows were damaged and businesses looted by protesters.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Risimati Peter Shivuri has reiterated that lawlessness won’t be tolerated and that appropriate measures will be taken for anyone transgressing.
