A 29-year-old man was caught while trying to flee from a group of community members, after allegedly robbing a 50-year-old female of her cell phone.

On Monday, 13 June 2016, at approximately 11:30 the complainant was exiting a butchery at the Kim Park Shopping Centre in the Kimberley CBD, when the suspect forcefully grabbed her cell phone from her hand. Her scream for help alerted some men and women in the vicinity.

The community members chased the suspect down Sidney Street into the direction of Constable Merapelo Pilane (Member of Provincial Corporate Communication), who immediately acted and arrested the suspect. The cell phone was also retrieved from the suspect and given back to the right-full owner.

The Samsung Note 4 cell phone has an estimated value of R11 000.

The Police lauds the constable for his vigilance and also thanked the community for their assistance in this regard. The suspect should be appearing in the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court soon.

The investigation continues.
