Kimberley rapist handed life sentence

On 3 September 2019, the Kimberley Regional Court sentenced Dirk Martin (46) to life imprisonment for raping a 24 year old woman.

The incident occurred on 16 September 2018 at Martin’s house. According to the information, the victim was visiting the accused when he raped her at knife point and held her hostage for hours before letting her go. Martin was arrested the next day after the incident and his bail application was successfully opposed by the investigating officer, Warrant Officer NR Zephe.

The Police Management in Northern Cape has applauded Warrant Officer Zephe for his meticulous investigation that ensured that another perpetrator faces jail time and the victim gets justice. No woman or any other human being deserves to be violated in any way.

As the police we will continue to ensure that crimes against women and children do not go unnoticed.
