Northern Cape Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Steve Mabuela welcomed the 195 years jail sentence imposed on Katlego Sebolai (32), Keobakile Obuseng (25) and Neo Dikwidi (22) for kidnapping, hijacking, murder, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

The cases against the accused were referred and investigated by Kuruman Serious Organised Crime Investigation team after a string of hijacking and kidnapping cases reported around John Taolo Gaetsewe District during the year 2019.

A thorough investigation by the team led to the conviction and sentencing of the accused persons by the Kuruman Magistrate Court on Friday, 19 May 2023.

All three accused were sentenced as follows:

Katlego Sebolai for kidnapping: 15 years imprisonment, hijacking – 7 years’ imprisonment, murder – 25 years’ imprisonment, illegal possession of firearms – 10 years imprisonment and illegal possession of ammunition – 8 years imprisonment.

Keobakile Obuseng for kidnapping: 15 years imprisonment, hijacking – 7 years imprisonment, murder – 25 years imprisonment and for illegal possession of firearms – 10 years imprisonment and illegal possession of ammunition – 8 years imprisonment.

Neo Dikwidi for kidnapping: 15 years imprisonment, hijacking – 7 years imprisonment, murder – 25 years imprisonment and for illegal possession of firearms – 10 years imprisonment and illegal possession of ammunition – 8 years imprisonment.

All sentences will run concurrently. All three accused were declared unfit to possess firearms.
