The Britstown Regional Court has handed down a 10-year imprisonment sentence to 27-year-old Mpumelelo Pieterson for a burglary that targeted a local community soup kitchen.

The conviction and sentencing, which took place on Wednesday, 19 March 2025, stem from an incident in Mziwabantu, Britstown. The Britstown General Detectives led the investigation, which culminated in Pieterson’s successful prosecution.

According to evidence presented in court, the case was initiated after the complainant discovered the door of the Mziwabantu soup kitchen had been forcibly opened. A thorough inspection confirmed that a burglary had occurred, leading to the incident being reported to the South African Police Service.

Through subsequent investigations, detectives identified and arrested a suspect. Their efforts also led to the recovery of a stolen electric kettle taken during the break-in.

Pieterson was convicted on a charge of business burglary and theft. In addition to the 10-year prison term, the court declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
