The alertness and vigilance members attached to the Kathu crime prevention unit led to the arrest of a foreign male and the seizure of drugs at 16:40 on 29 March 2021 in Rietbok Street in Kathu.

While the members were conducting vehicle patrols in Rietbok Street, a dark silver Suzuki sedan drove in a negligent manner in front of them. The members stopped the vehicle and noticed the driver acting nervous. After requesting the driver to put on his mask, Sgt Eiman when searching him, felt something in the mask.

Upon further searching the suspect, he discovered that the face mask had zips in the inside and found 16 small ziplock bags filled with Crystal Meth, CAT, heroine and mandrax tablets hidden inside.

The total value of the drugs is estimated at R5 000-00.

The 40-year-old male was arrested and charged for possession of drugs and will soon be appearing in the Kathu Magistrates court.

The Station Commander of Kathu SAPS, Lt Col Sandra Boshof commended the members for their relentless efforts in eradicating drugs from the streets and warned drug dealers that the police will squeeze their space to operate.
