The Northern Cape SAPS welcomes the 15 year rape sentence that was handed down to a 31-year-old man in the Kathu Regional Court recently.

On 24 August 2019 at about 01:30 the female victim was offered a lift by the known accused from a night club in Kathu.

The accused Nhlanlha Success Msane first drove to his house where the two of them chatted and Msane said he was tired and asked the victim to stay over. He then forcefully started to undress her and then raped her during the night.

The victim laid a charge the same day and Msane was arrested and released on R1000-00 bail seven days later. Msane was found guilty on the charge of rape and sentenced on 31 May 2021 to 15 years imprisonment in the Kathu Regional court.

The Provincial Head of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences units in the Northern Cape, Brig Nicky Mills applauded D/Sgt Maletsatsi Smous of Kathu FCS for the thorough investigation of the incident.
