Kathu rapist handed 10 year sentence

Ronnie Swartz has been found guilty and sentenced to an effective ten years imprisonment for rape of a woman in Kathu on 4 November 2018.

The victim reported the rape incident after she informed her family members, who took her to Kathu police station to report the matter. The suspect was traced and arrested on the 5 November 2018.

The investigating officer, Sergeant Boikanyo Pilane, successfully opposed bail and the accused was kept in police custody until the completion of the trial.

On Friday, 18 February 2022, Kathu Regional Court found him guilty and slapped him with ten years direct imprisonment and he was further also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Northern Cape Police Management welcomed the sentence, and praised the investigating officer, Sergeant Boikanyo Pilane for his excellent investigative work.
