Kathu police arrest suspect while conducting COVID-19 duties

While conducting COVID- 19 duties on 31 March 2020, at 13:40, Sgt Ben Eiman received a report of a suspicious person in a vacant yard in 13th Avenue, Rooisand in Kathu.

While en-route to the premises, members stopped and searched a male person and found him in possession of two gold taps, pressure valves and copper pipes in a green and black bag.

The recovered items are valued at R4000.

The suspect was detained in the police vehicle and drove to the above address.

Upon further investigation Sgt Eiman noticed the outside taps and water pipes were removed. While at the premises where the items were stolen, a complainant called and gave a description of the suspect to Sgt Eiman who informed him that he had already apprehended and arrested a suspect prior to his call.

A 32-year-old male suspect was arrested for theft of copper pipes and malicious damage to property. The suspect will soon be appearing in the Kathu Magistrates’ court.

The John Taolo Gaetsewe Cluster Commander, Major General Johan Bean commended the members for their vigilance in stamping down the authority of the state.
