On the evening of Friday, 15 December 2023, information was received of men allegedly acting suspicious standing in front of a shop in 11th Avenue in Kakamas.

The informer indicated that one of the men identified was implicated in previously robbing the same shop.

Members of SAPS Kakamas Festive Season Task team rushed to the address. When the suspects saw the police approaching, they fled dropping two firearms while running away. The SAPS members gave chase and arrested three suspects while the fourth one managed to avoid arrest by running into the nearby koppies.

The three male suspects age between 30 and 49 were arrested for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of a presumed stolen firearm and also the possession of a stained R200 note. They will soon appear in Kakamas court.

The District Commissioner of ZFM, Major General Thabo Mphuthi applauded the swift response of the members, the arrest and confiscation of the firearms which were possibly used in the commission of crime or planned to be used in a crime.

Efforts to stamp down the authority of the state during this period is reaping successes in the ZF Mgcawu District.
