A 33-year-old woman from Kathu has finally received justice after enduring multiple assaults in a case of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).

The accused, 37-year-old Elvis Motsamai, allegedly attacked the victim, accusing her of infidelity. The assaults occurred on several occasions, culminating in an incident on 28 June 2023, which prompted the victim to report the matter to the police.

Following an investigation, Motsamai was arrested and charged with three counts of Assault with Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm. He was later released on bail while awaiting trial.

On Tuesday, 15 July 2025, the Kathu Regional Court delivered its verdict, finding Motsamai guilty on all three counts. The court sentenced him to eight years’ imprisonment, which was wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit any assault-related offenses during this period.

In addition, the court declared Motsamai unfit to possess a firearm, reinforcing the seriousness of his crimes.
