The police welcome the sentencing that was handed down to a 38-year-old man for raping a 29-year-old female in Jan Kempdorp.

On 23 December 2018 at approximately 01:00 the victim was sleeping at her boyfriend’s house, after a party with friends. Her boyfriend’s uncle, the accused, came into the room and sexually assaulted the victim without her consent.

He was arrested by members of the Hartswater Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit. The accused was sentenced on 17 March 2021 in the Hartswater Regional Court to 10 years imprisonment for rape.

The SAPS Management in the Northern Cape commends D/Sgt Andrew Ntlathi of the FCS unit for a job well done, as one of the priorities of police is to continue to fight the scourge of violence against women and children.
