Members of the South African Police Service together with the South African National Defence Force, continues to address illegal mining activities in the Northern Cape Province.
In an ongoing operation, dubbed Operation Vala Umgodi, a total of 25 suspects, between the ages of 26 and 50 were arrested in the Namaqua and Frances Baard Districts on Wednesday 27 December 2023.
Members under the leadership of Colonel Kholakele Sontsi, recovered eleven generators, 33 jack hammers and other tools believed to be used during illegal mining activities.
The suspects are reported to be Lesotho Nationals and will be appearing in court soon.
