The swift action by the Kakamas Visible Policing Task team resulted in the recovery of unlawful firearms, ammunition, and dangerous weapons.

During the execution of Operation Shanela on 25 May 2024, the members received information regarding the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The information was operationalized, and police pounced on the identified premises in Kakamas.

A 9mm pistol, .22 rifle, pellet guns, and ammunition, as well as a bow and arrow, were recovered and confiscated.

A 51-year-old man was arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and is expected to appear in Court soon.

The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended the members for their swift response and the removal of unlawful firearms from our streets. She praised the community members for sharing information with the SAPS and exposing criminals.
