The SAPS welcomes the 35 year sentence that was handed down to an adult male for rape, robbery and house breaking in Hartswater.

On 18 July 2017 the 15-year-old victim was alone at home when the suspect broke into the house, threatened her with knife and raped her. He forcefully took two cellphones and fled the scene.

Police followed up on information and picked up a linkage with DNA after evidence was collected at the scene.

Police opposed bail and the accused remained in custody until his sentencing in the Hartswater Regional Court on 6 April 2022.

The Provincial Head for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) units, Brigadier Nicky Mills commended the investigating officer, WO Japie Nortje from the Hartswater FCS unit for the meticulous and professional investigation that led to this outstanding sentence.
