The SAPS Management in the Northern Cape welcomes rape sentence that was handed down to Thabo Phahamang (35) in the Mothibistad Regional Court, recently.

On 10 November 2018 at about 01:00, the accused broke into the house of the female victim (35) in Kagung Village where he strangled and assaulted and her severely.

He threatened her with a knife forcefully took her to his house and raped her several times.

Phahamang was arrested on 22 November 2018 and sentenced on the 19 August 2021 as follows:

Count 1 : Rape – 5 years
Count 2: Rape – 5 years
Count 3 : Rape – Life imprisonment.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Maj Gen Joey Kers commended Cst Precious Schoeman attached to the Kuruman Family, Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for her meticulous investigation of the case which led to lifelong incarceration of the perpetrator. He also calls upon the community to break the silence against gender based violence and report and act against violence perpetrated against our women and children.
