The Provincial SAPS Organized Crime Detectives are investigating a case of armed robbery after two adult male suspects were arrested in Hartswater.

On Tuesday, 16 August 2021, at 10:00, two employees of a local supermarket in the Hartswater CBD were on their way to the bank to deposit money.

It is alleged that they were accosted by four men who threatened them and grabbed the bag containing the cash.

The men fled in a white Honda Ballade and was pursued by community members and the owners of the supermarket.

The suspects abandoned the vehicle in Utlwanang and fled on foot.

One suspect was arrested by Hartswater SAPS in a veld in the close vicinity. The Hartswater K9 Unit speedily followed up on information and arrested another male suspect with the help of K9 Tiger (SAPS Patrol dog) while he was hiding in a shanty in Bonita Park.

Police also recovered some of the cash that was reportedly robbed from the victims.

After following up on more information police later discovered the firearm and ammunition underneath a bakkie that was parked in a yard in Hartswater.

The Honda Ballade was seized as it was utilized in the commission of a crime.

The public is warned not to approach the suspects as they are suspected to be armed and dangerous.

The Frances Baard District Commissioner, Major General Johan Bean commended the members from the various stations and units who were involved in the apprehension and arrest of the suspects and also thanked the community for their assistance as this is a clear example of partnership policing in the fight against crime.
