The Provincial Head of FCS in the Northern Cape, Brigadier Nicky Mills welcomed the sentence handed down to rapist, Thato Ncheyagae (23) on 4 September 2020, in the Kuruman Regional court.

On 31 December 2019 at 22:00 the 13-year-female victim from Gamasepa Village went with friends to a local tavern. At 04:00 on 1 January 2020, the victim went to toilet with a friend and while the friend waited outside for the victim, the suspect dragged her into a dark isolated area where he forcefully undressed her and raped her.

The suspect left the victim and returned to the tavern. The victim reported the incident to her mother and the police arrested the accused the next day.

On 4 September 2020 the accused, Thato Ncheyagae, aged 23 years was sentenced in the Kuruman Regional court, to twenty (20) years direct imprisonment.

He was declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name will be recorded in the register of sexual offenders.

The Kuruman FCS commander, Capt Caren Nel applauded the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Kweitumetse Semetsa for the meticulous investigation of the case.
