German guesthouse owner killed after investigating noise outside, Ritchie

A guesthouse owner of Ritchie in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, Gunther Schwalb (66) who is originally from Germany, was killed on Thursday 28 April 2022, when two men who wanted to steal his car thew a stone against his head.

In the end nothing was taken by the attackers .

Mr Schwalb went outside his house around 04:00 to investigate after hearing a noise. He came across the two men trying to steal his car after which they attacked him.

Mr Schwalb managed to make it back to his house where he collapsed and died from the headwound he sustained.

The attackers continued to attack the house and pelted the windows with stones even after the seriously injured Mr Schwalb made it back to his house.

Me Schwalb’s wife Felicity called the Police after the incident. They are investigating a case of murder.

Mr Schwalb was also attacked at his house last year.

He was a very well known member of the community and was known for his friendly and welcoming nature.
