On Wednesday, 23 October 2019, Modisaotsile Pule and Keinetse James Leberegane both aged 28, were sentenced to life imprisonment by Mothibistad Regional Court.

In February 2013, the two accused raped a 38 year old woman at Laxey village outside Tsineng. It is reported that the two accused bought a beer for the victim at one of the local taverns where after the duo accompanied the victim as she went home and along the way they took turns raping her.

After a thorough and extensive investigation by Sergeant Tebogo Nowalaza of Kuruman Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit, the two suspects were arrested.

The acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Brigadier ES Mills, applauded Sergeant Nowalaza for his sterling and meticulous investigation. Brig. Mills also complimented Kuruman FCS unit under the Command of Captain Karen Nel for ensuring that the community within JTG Cluster are safe and that all perpetrators of reported rape cases do not share space with our community and are taken to jail.

All these achievements are as a result of mutual understanding and cooperation between the SAPS, NPA and the Department of Justice, said Brigadier Mills.
