Kagisho Bonolo Smous (23) and Kabo Moncho (24) were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for rape in the Mothibistad Magistrates’ Court.

On 14 February 2014 at about 20:40, a mentally challenged girl (17), the victim, was on her way to the shop when she was accosted by two known suspects.

They grabbed the victim and took her to a house where they raped her. The mother of the victim was able to locate the house where her daughter was sexually assaulted. However, the suspects fled through a window.

The police arrested the suspects who were 16 and 17 years old at the time of the incident. Both were sentenced to 10 years, with 2 years suspended for 5 years.

The Provincial Head for Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) unit, Brig Nicky Mills commended Detective Sergeant Matshidisho Boikanyo of the Kuruman FCS Unit for outstanding investigative work.

The SAPS will continue to focus on gender-based violence as one of our priorities and ensure that perpetrators of these heinous crimes are brought to justice.
