Excellent investigation by Sergeant Lucky Malepe from Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) in Upington has led to a hefty conviction of three men and a woman who were found guilty of rape on Thursday, 31 October 2019.

On 16 November 2016, the 15 year old victim and her friend were invited to visit the nearby village with the perpetrators. The two friends were placed in two separate vehicles and the one that the victim was travelling in, stopped at an open field where the three men took turns raping her in the presence of the presence of the woman who was with them. When the victim’s friend arrived she noticed that something was wrong and she tried to rescue her friend but the woman prevented her from doing so.

The four perpetrators, namely, Ruwellyn Alwyn (24), Abel Jonkers (39), Geraldo Alwyn (20) and Carmon Alwyn (20) were sentenced to 20, 20, 18 and 16 years imprisonment respectively by the Northern Cape High Court on Friday 1 November 2019.

The management of the ZF Mgcawu cluster under the command of Brigadier Jonny Besnaar, applauded the member for his sterling investigation and commitment in removing these criminals from society and restoring the community’s trust in the SAPS.
